{"id":139,"date":"2018-11-21T10:29:58","date_gmt":"2018-11-21T10:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/chemistryphysics\/grili-info\/"},"modified":"2025-01-27T21:57:28","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T18:57:28","slug":"grili-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.conas.sua.ac.tz\/chemistryphysics\/?page_id=139","title":{"rendered":"GRILI INFORMATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Project Background information<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/drp.dfcentre.com\/project\/green-resources-innovations-livelihood-improvement\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Resources Innovations for Livelihood Improvement<\/a> (GRILI) is a collaborative project supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzania.um.dk\/en\/dnida-en\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Danish Development Agency (DANIDA)<\/a> through <a href=\"https:\/\/dfcentre.com\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Danida fellowship Center<\/a> and led by Dr. Faith Philemon Mabiki from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smcose.sua.ac.tz\/chemistryphysics\/\" class=\"broken_link\">Department of Chemistry and Physics<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Sokoine University of Agriculture<\/a> (SUA) in collaboration with researchers at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nm-aist.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Nelson Mandela African Institute of science and Technology Tanzania<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.muhas.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">Institute of Traditional Medicine (MUHAS)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nimr.or.tz\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">The National Institute for Medical Research<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/drps.mzumbe.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"> Mzumbe University<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ku.dk\/english\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Copenhagen<\/a> is carrying out the research project.<\/p>\n<p>It is using two plant species, <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfs.semanticscholar.org\/8ae5\/70939f0da2b16a4fa572ea9d92f7e8466631.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Synadenium glaucescens<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22302704\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Commiphora swynnertonii<\/a>, as model plants for adding value and up-scaling technologies. It is carried out in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania and Manyara region where <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfs.semanticscholar.org\/8ae5\/70939f0da2b16a4fa572ea9d92f7e8466631.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Synadenium glaucescens<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22302704\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Commiphora swynnertonii<\/a> are found in plenty and highly utilized as source of traditional medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Its main objective is to catalyse the socio-economic development and poverty reduction through training, research and expansion of market opportunities of value added <a href=\"http:\/\/www.green-resource.com\/products_services\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Resource Products<\/a> (GRPs) with pharmacological value for livelihood improvement.<\/p>\n<h3>Project objectives<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To strengthen the institutional research capacities on GRPs value addition through improvement of technical capabilities and by building human capacity for the use of this<\/li>\n<li>To identify and characterize antimicrobial active ingredients of GRPs from <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfs.semanticscholar.org\/8ae5\/70939f0da2b16a4fa572ea9d92f7e8466631.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">S. glaucescens<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22302704\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">C. swynnertonii<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>To determine the likelihood that resistance will develop towards antimicrobial active ingredients of GRPs form S. glaucescens and C. swynnertonii.<\/li>\n<li>To determine the extent and effect of adulteration of GRPs in the Tanzanian market with the specific emphasis on GRPs from <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfs.semanticscholar.org\/8ae5\/70939f0da2b16a4fa572ea9d92f7e8466631.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">S. glaucescens <\/a>and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22302704\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"> C. swynnertonii.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>To develop a business model for commercialization of GRPs by different actors in the GRP-value and supply chains<\/li>\n<li>To disseminate research results to policy makers and end users at national and international levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The project activities<\/h3>\n<p>Project activities are implemented in four (4) work packages.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>WP1: Analytical chemistry\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nIdentification and characterization of antimicrobial active ingredients of GRPs from <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfs.semanticscholar.org\/8ae5\/70939f0da2b16a4fa572ea9d92f7e8466631.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">S. glaucescens<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22302704\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">C. swynnertonii<\/a>;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>WP2: Infection Microbiology\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nThe work package fucus on determination of resistance towards anti-bacterial GRPs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>WP3: Quality control of Green Resource Products\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nDetermination of extent and effect of adulteration of GRPs in the Tanzanian market.<\/li>\n<li><strong>WP4: Business model for GRPs\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nDevelopment of a business model for commercialization of GRPs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The duration of the project is five years and the activity plan is as shown below<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-138\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conas.sua.ac.tz\/chemistryphysics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GRILI_PHOTO.PNG\" alt=\"GRILI PHOTO\" width=\"716\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conas.sua.ac.tz\/chemistryphysics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GRILI_PHOTO.PNG 716w, https:\/\/www.conas.sua.ac.tz\/chemistryphysics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GRILI_PHOTO-300x132.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 716px) 100vw, 716px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project Background information Green Resources Innovations for Livelihood Improvement (GRILI) is a collaborative project supported by the Danish Development Agency (DANIDA) through Danida fellowship Center and led by Dr. Faith Philemon Mabiki from the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
