Dr. Dino Andrew Woiso has a basic degree in Forestry from SUA, M Sc in Biodiversity conservation from SLU, Uppsala University, Sweden, and Ph.D. in agroforestry from Bangor University, UK. He has expertise in natural resource utilization and conservation, integrated ecosystem management, and community forestry. He has conducted research, consultancy, and outreach activities in the fields of sustainable management and utilization of natural resources in Tanzania and East Africa. For more than 10 years he has been involved in training farmers including forest adjacent communities across Tanzania on tree nursery establishment, seedlings transplantation, natural forest tending operations, and overall restoration of degraded forest/catchment areas. He has also been engaged in the assessment of tree nursery operations in Tanzania and the development of nursery management guidelines. Dr. Woiso has a Ph.D. from Bangor University, UK (2011) where he assessed the domestication and commercialization potential of indeciduous fruit trees of Africa using Sclerocarya birrea (the Marula tree) as a study specimen. He has also worked on nursery establishment, enrichment planting, field tending, and sustainable harvesting of Prunus africana barks in Rombo, Hai, Mwanga, Lushoto, Njombe, and Mufindi. His research areas of interest are the conservation of biodiversity, afforestation, climate change, transboundary waters, and integrated ecosystem management.
