I am a Professor of Veterinary Medicine at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and posses the following academic qualifications:

  • Diploma in Range Management, Livestock Training Institute, Morogoro (1985).
  • Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) – Sokoine University of Agriculture (1992).
  • Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Tropical Animal Health – University of Edinburgh (1995).
  • PhD in Clinical Microbiology – University of Copenhagen (2000).
  • Masters in Facilities Management (MScFM) – Leeds Metropolitan University (2011).

Research Experience and Supervision of Masters and PhD Students

I have been actively involved in academics, research and consultancy for more than 20-years:

  • During the last 15 years (2002-2017), I have been involved in the development and implementation of 18 research projects serving as Project Leader in 9 of them and as co-researcher in the rest.
  • Research projects covered diverse areas of animal-, public-, aquatic and genera environmental health; water quality and safety, wildlife, molecular genetics and forensics and they were funded by various research and development agencies including ODA, DFID, DANIDA, FAO, AICAD, SIDA (WARFSA), NORAD (NUFU & NORHED), IFS, IDRC, SUA, COSTECH, AGRA and RUFORUM.
  • I have published 65 peer-reviewed articles in international journals; 25 in workshop/conference proceedings; one book and 8 publications for outreach/extension work.
  • I have supervised 22 postgraduate students (14 Masters and 8 PhD) in diverse fields of veterinary science, animal production and health, aquatic health, water quality and sanitation services, wildlife conservation, molecular diagnostics, etc.
