AI4MoreCrops Project Showcases Progress in AI Implementation for Agriculture

The AI4MORECROPS project held a workshop on “Enhancing Farm-scale Crop Yield Prediction Using Machine Learning Models for the Internet of Agro-Things in Tanzania.” The workshop, which served as a pivotal moment to update stakeholders on project activities and preliminary results, was held on November 20th, 2023. The project’s mission to integrate AI into agriculture crop yield prediction, focusing on maize and sorghum.

Prof. Japhet Kashaigili officiated the workshop, which was attended by key figures such as Dr. Philbert Luhunga from COSTECH, Dr. Geoffrey Karugila, Principal of CoNAS, Dr. Michael Mahenge, Acting HoD of DIIT, SUA staff, students, and agricultural stakeholders. Dr. Alcardo Barakabitze and project team members Dr. Joseph Telemala and Dr. Michael Mahenge, who shared insights into implementing project activities for crop yield prediction led the session.

The workshop highlighted the project’s progress, emphasizing the challenges, and accomplishments made during implementation. Stakeholders were able to contribute insights to the refinement of AI and IoT technologies for crop yield prediction applications by participating in discussions.

Attendees emphasized the importance of the project to leverage technology for improved farming practices and crop yield prediction. The event ended on a positive note, emphasizing the potential for these advancements to transform Tanzania’s agricultural landscape.
