Diploma in Information Technology (DIT)

About the Programme

This programme is intended to produce competent and highly skilled technical experts in Information Technology. Graduates of this programme are expected to be competent in Computer Hardware, Computer Networking, Computer and Multimedia Applications, Software Development, Computer Programming and Database Management. We make reliable skilled personnel to support the fast changing global ICT market with entrepreneurial mindset. The programme is available in the College of Natural and Applied Science (CoNAS) under the Department of Informatics and Information Technology (DIIT). It is delivered on a full-time and part-time basis for a minimum duration of 2 years.

Expected Learning Outcomes

At the end of the programme, we expect the graduates to:

  1. Troubleshoot and solve the computer hardware, software and networks problem.
  2. Use various computer application software
  3. Understand the basic theory of computer hardware, software and networks
  4. Develop and implement Information Technology business in a profitable way within the limits of their resource endowment towards self-employment

There is no knowledge or development without computer skills to join and become an IT expert.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this degree programme work as technicians, technologists, systems analysts and designers, systems developers, network administrators, database developers and administrators, IT researchers in IT field, trainers in IT field, data specialist, and information officer. Prospective employees include ICT companies, financial institutions, training institutions, and other private and public institutions.

Admission Requirements

One principal or two passes at ACSEE in one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Science and Practice of Agriculture, Geography, Economics and Commerce OR Certificate in Information Technology, Engineering or other relevant disciplines. Pass in Mathematics shall be required in either CSEE or in Certificate Courses.

Fees

TShs. 900,000 per year

Semester 1

Core courses: Computing Mathematics, Introduction to Information Technology, Introduction to Computer Networks, Introduction to Computer Hardware and Assembling, Communication Skills

Elective courses: Principles of Problem solving and Programming, Fundamentals of Multimedia, Introduction to Web programming, Computer Architecture and Organization

Semester 2

Core courses: System Analysis and Design, LAN Design and Installation, Computer Peripherals Repair and Maintenance, Database Fundamentals, Programming in C++

Elective courses: IT Project Management, Graphics Design and Desktop Publishing, Website Contents, Management Systems, Operating System

Semester 3

Core courses: Introduction to Data structure and Algorithms, Introduction to Object Oriented Programming, Database design and Implementation, Network Switching and Routing, Computer Troubleshooting, Repair and Maintenance

Elective courses: IT Project I, Multimedia equipment and devices, Electronic and Mobile Commerce, Mobile Communication Technologies

Semester 4
